be physically present in Canada;

The 2026 changes were approved by the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship just days before the February 28, 2026 conflict broke out (it was officially signed by the Minister on February 25, 2025). The Government of Canada states that the 2026 extension was introduced to provide access to work permit extensions for eligible Iranian nationals already in Canada and who were issued work permits on or before February 28, 2025.
